A popular musician in Nigeria, D’banj came up with the phrase “on a long thing“. When someone says to you, “you are on a long thing” it means you have to wait maybe all your life to get something.
Let’s look at an example in this conversation.
Girl: Sweetheart, I need a thousand naira for my beauty soap.
Boy: (in shock) What are you using it to wash?
Girl: To take my bath each day.
Boy: You’re on a long thing.
It’s not uncommon to find Lagosians use slangs derived from music. To someone living outside Lagos it might be strange but to us who live in the city of Lagos, we understand what it means.

Until next time,
Adiós!

Ha, ha you just reminded me of that long gist I had with someone over how slangs just come and stay.
I would like to invite you to my blog party that’s taking place as we speak. It’s rocking and I hope you can make it 🙂
